667-669 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Newark, New Jersey
Originally constructed about 1915 as a luxury apartment building, the current substantial renovation will provide congregate, supportive housing for up to 16 women and their children. Each four bedroom apartment has a new kitchen and bathrooms, and an individual HVAC system.
An elevator has been inserted into the space of a former service stair and light shaft, and the building made fully HC accessible. Upgrades include all new plumbing and electrical systems, with full re suppression and fire alarm systems throughout. A full lead-based paint abatement process was a part of the overall rehabilitation plan. The renovated basement will provide communal kitchen and dining space, multi-purpose gathering space, a laundry room, and office space for supportive social services.
