Barrow & Wayne
A new 4-story, 12 unit residential building located on a corner site in the Van Vorst Park Historic District of downtown Jersey City, and designed to reflect the existing neighborhood fabric and the scale, proportions & height of surrounding historic buildings. The façade is composed of metal-clad projecting bays alternating with red brick, to dimensionally relate to the rhythm of the neighboring attached brick rowhouses. Metal clad cornices and punched window openings also reflect the historic neighborhood fabric, as do the iron-fenced planting beds and the prominent entry stoop, fronting the building.
Building structure is composed of three floors of wood- frame construction above a concrete and masonry ground floor / base, which incorporates enclosed parking for 12 cars. Subsoil conditions and zero lot-line construction along side of adjacent century old structures necessitated the use of helical piles to support the building’s foundation. Project amenities include a common courtyard and shared terraces on each floor.
