John P. Whittington Senior Living Center
Atlantic City, New Jersey
The John P. Whittington Senior Living Center, with its wrap-around porch, gabled bays and metal roofing, was designed to evoke the large-scale hotels that were prevalent in Atlantic City and other southern NJ resort communities at the turn of the 20th century. The four-story, 48,000 sf building provides for 48 apartments and is sited for views of both the nearby inlet and out to the Atlantic Ocean. The ground floor houses communal, program and support spaces, with a corner principal entry and rear drop-off drive and parking. Each upper floor contains 16 one-bedroom apartments in two wings, separated by a central elevator lobby which opens to a communal, open porch with ocean views, for socializing.
LWDMR provided comprehensive architectural services, from Preliminary Design through Construction Close-out, including Site Planning and approval, Construction Documents, Bid and Construction Administration services.
